If you've been with us for a while, you know our Basics and Classics lines. You've washed them hundreds of times, felt them soften with every cycle, and probably recommended them to at least one friend who runs hot at night. We love that history, and we're keeping everything that earned it.
But names matter. And as we push into new fabrics, new weave structures, and a deeper focus on the science of staying cool while you sleep, "Basics" and "Classics" no longer tell the full story. So we're retiring those names and introducing names that do.
Why we needed new names
When we launched Basics, the name made sense: approachable, straightforward, honest. Classics communicated longevity and quality. Both still do. But here's what those names couldn't carry: intent.
Our team has spent the past two years deep in fabric research, testing breathability and comfort across performance weaves, Tencel™, linen-cotton blends, percale, and soft viscose from bamboo. We've been working with hot sleepers who run their thermostats cold, flip their pillows every twenty minutes, and still wake up sweating. For those sleepers, and honestly for most of us, the question isn't just "what's comfortable?" It's "what's comfortable right now, at this time of day, in this season?"
That's a question a line called "Basics" can't answer. DayBasics, NightCool, and now BambooSoft can.
DayBasics (formerly Basics)
Lightweight, breathable everyday fabrics designed for the warmth and light of the day. Perfect for loungewear, nap layers, and easy everyday comfort. Shop the Women's DayBasics collection or explore DayBasics Pajama Sets, DayBasics Nightgowns, and DayBasics Tops & Separates.
NightCool (formerly Classics)
Our engineered, moisture-wicking performance line, built specifically for the way your body heats up after 10pm. Deep-sleep comfort for hot sleepers and anyone who deals with night sweats. BambooSoft (our newest line)
Soft, breathable everyday comfort in silky viscose from bamboo. BambooSoft is a comfort fabric, made for slow mornings, warm afternoons, and easy lounging, not engineered as a night-sweats solution. If you run hot at night, NightCool is still your best pick; if you simply love a buttery-soft, breathable feel, you'll love BambooSoft. Explore the BambooSoft collection or learn more in what bamboo viscose is and how to care for it.
What actually changes and what doesn't
The products you already own aren't going anywhere. Your DayBasics pieces are the same ones that were in our Basics line last week. Same construction, same guarantee. The rename is about future-proofing, not replacing.
Our commitment to existing customers: all care instructions, warranty coverage, and size compatibility remain identical. If you have Basics or Classics products, they are now DayBasics or NightCool products and nothing else has changed. Still not sure which size is right? Our size chart covers every style we make.
What is changing is what sits beside those originals. Under the new names, we now have room to introduce fabric options that would have felt out of place under "Basics." Engineered moisture-wicking weaves and Tencel™ for the nights that soak you. Silky viscose from bamboo for soft, breathable everyday comfort. You can explore everything currently in stock across our full moisture-wicking sleepwear collection.
Why hot sleepers drove this decision
Roughly a third of adults identify as hot sleepers: people whose core body temperature runs high at night, who frequently wake due to heat, or who experience night sweats regularly. If that's you, our cooling sleepwear for night sweats and hot flashes is a good place to start. It brings together the styles our hot-sleeper customers reach for most.
For years, the bedding industry's answer was "cooling gel" toppers and phase-change mattress pads. Useful, but incomplete. The fabric you sleep in matters just as much as what you sleep on top of. Read about the science behind our sleepwear to understand exactly how our proprietary moisture-wicking fabric works differently from standard cotton.
The right sleepwear does three things for a hot sleeper: it wicks moisture away from skin before it can pool, it allows air to circulate rather than trapping it, and it feels neutral to the touch. Not "cold," but not warm either. Most cotton manages one of these. Our NightCool development work is built around doing all three.
Fabrics behind our NightCool performance line
- Our proprietary moisture-wicking fabric. The engineered performance fabric that started it all, built to pull moisture and heat away from the skin and dry quickly. This is the core of NightCool.
- Tencel™ lyocell. Naturally derived from eucalyptus, Tencel draws moisture away from skin and dries faster than cotton. That makes it a real advantage for night sweats and hot flashes.
- Linen-cotton blends. Linen's porous structure makes it five times more heat-conductive than wool. Blended with cotton, it softens faster and loses the stiffness that makes pure linen polarizing.
- Percale weave cotton. The crisp, one-over-one weave structure creates breathable sleepwear that stays cooler than sateen and becomes softer with every wash. A genuine long-game fabric.
And separately, for soft everyday comfort rather than sweat management, there's BambooSoft, our silky viscose-from-bamboo line. It's breathable and gentle on skin, lovely for warm-weather lounging, though for heavy night sweats NightCool remains the better tool. See what's available now in our BambooSoft collection.
The bigger picture: comfort doesn't have a single season
One thing we've learned from our customers: most people don't sleep the same way in June as they do in November. Their sleepwear shouldn't either. The division between DayBasics and NightCool isn't just about light versus dark. It's about acknowledging that comfort is contextual.
DayBasics fabrics are built for the ambient energy of daytime living: brighter, lighter, more adaptable. Explore DayBasics pajama sets, tops, bottoms, and nightgowns for the full range.
NightCool fabrics are engineered for the particular demands of sleep, a state where your body is doing specific thermal work and your sleepwear should be helping, not hindering. The Women's NightCool collection and Men's NightCool collection have everything currently available. If you're shopping for a set, the Women's NightCool Pajama Sets and Men's NightCool Sets are the most popular starting point.
Under all our line names, we'll continue to expand the range of fabrics we offer, the sizes we cut, and the environmental certifications we pursue. If a new material earns a place in a sleeper's wardrobe, it earns a place in our lineup. Frequently asked questions
Are DayBasics and NightCool the same products as Basics and Classics?
Yes. The DayBasics line is a direct continuation of our Basics collection, and NightCool continues where Classics left off. All existing products, sizes, and warranties are unchanged. Only the names are new.
What sleepwear is best for hot sleepers?
Hot sleepers typically do best with engineered moisture-wicking and breathable fabrics like our proprietary NightCool fabric, Tencel™ lyocell, percale cotton, and linen-cotton blends. Our cooling sleepwear collection is specifically built around these materials and their ability to regulate sleep temperature. You can also explore our guide to temperature-regulating bedding to understand what to look for.
Will the NightCool line include new fabric options?
Yes. The name change was made precisely to make room for new fabrics. NightCool will expand to include Tencel™, linen-cotton blends, and percale options alongside the original constructions. Watch the Better Sleep Source blog for new arrivals.
What is BambooSoft, and is it for night sweats?
BambooSoft is our newest line, made from soft, breathable viscose from bamboo. It's designed for everyday comfort and lounging, not as a night-sweats solution. If you deal with hot flashes or heavy night sweats, our moisture-wicking NightCool line is the better choice.
What's the difference between DayBasics and NightCool?
DayBasics is designed for lighter, ambient-temperature comfort, ideal for lounging, napping, and everyday wear. NightCool is engineered for sleep-specific performance, with a focus on moisture-wicking and temperature regulation for people who sleep hot. Not sure which is right for you? Check our DayBasics vs NightCool guide, which covers the key differences in fabric construction and who each line is designed for.
Is NightCool good for people who experience night sweats?
It's one of the primary problems we designed around. The NightCool cooling collection uses fabrics that wick moisture before it can accumulate, allow air circulation rather than trapping body heat, and dry quickly so you don't wake up damp. If you have more questions, our Customer Care team is happy to help you find the right style.
