The images on the site for the tulip shorts are misleading: they have hemmed the sides for these photos. In reality, the sides are not hemmed together. The sides are open up to the waist (a full tulip hem, for sure!). So, these shorts are maximum cooling because if you are sleeping on your side, the shorts fall away exposing, well, you know what. If you are sitting, there's only a small overlap at the waistband that's together on the sides of the shorts. If that's okay, these are shorts for you.

You are right. The tulip hem is built to overlap rather than close, for airflow on hot nights, but our photos and our copy do not show how far it opens when you move or sleep on your side. Shoppers should be able to see that before they buy, so we are updating the photos and rewriting the description.

- MMonicaVerified Buyer2 weeks agoRated 2 out of 5 starsTulip hem = maximum airflow because sides not stitched together (only overlap)
Material is fine. Waist size is fine. It's close to a high-waisted fit. Ordered Medium. I'm hourglass body shape and wear 28" waist in jeans (5'7", 130 lb). The tulip hem creates an decent overlap of the side panels but they are not sewn together at all. The sides are sewn only at the waistband. This means rolling over or a slight gust of wind, causes the side panel to fall away and exposing the entire side leg and butt check up to the waistband. Similar effect on the front. So that's why I gave two stars: it's just not practical for me to be frequently pulling the side panel in place to cover myself. I'll try to hem it to keep the side panels together farther down the leg. It's loose fit so should work. Bottom line: if you want maximum coolness because there's no sides hemmed together, this is perfect for you. Not for me though.

You are right that the tulip panels overlap rather than close, which is where the airflow comes from. What our page does not make clear is how far they open when you roll over or catch a breeze. That is on us. We are rewriting the copy and updating the photos so the cut is obvious before anyone buys, not after.
If you would rather not alter something you paid for, our Care team will take them back, no fuss.
